Malaysian NR production up 14 percent

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Malaysian natural rubber production rose by 10,338 metric tons or 14.6 percent to 81,083 mt in July compared with June, the Statistics Department reported. Production fell by 1,821 mt from 82,904 metric tons on a year-on-year basis. The main portion of natural rubber production was contributed by the smallholding sector, with 93.2 percent, while the estate sector accounted for only 6.8 percent, the department said in a statement. Natural rubber exports in July increased by 5.8 percent as compared to June, while exports on a year-on-year basis surged strongly by 22.5 percent. The Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) continued to be the main contributor to exports, recording 71,318 mt. Of that, 55.6 percent was SMR20, it said. The main natural rubber consuming industry was rubber gloves at 72.4 percent. This was followed by tires and tubes at 8 percent and rubber thread at 5.5 percent, the department said.
